You would not imagine one film could produce two such different responses!

I went to see Paul with my husband who had thoroughly enjoyed Pegg and Frost in 'Hot Fuzz' and 'Shaun of the Dead'. He was looking forward to it more than I, but as it turned out, it was me who enjoyed it more! And that was a surprise!

I always temper my expectations of anything I go to see, whether it be film, live theatre, music etc. So for example, if I go to see an amateur production I will forgive much more than if it purports to be a professional company. Film is slightly different in that it should ALL be professional! (Mmmm...!!)  So going to see Paul I didn't have very high hopes that I would smile, let alone laugh out loud. Wrong!  There were several times I laughed really loudly while my better half sat there glum faced. This reminds me of the first time we met and he took me to see 'Austin Powers'; but the faces were reversed!  It is no Shakespeare, and the script is very laboured in parts, but other parts make up for it by being very clever - eg the scene in the bar (I won't spoil it for you).  Of course, Paul, the alien, steals the show and most of the jokes!

It isn't Shakespeare, but I still think it's worth seeing, however whether you want to pay to see it depends on your reasons for wanting to go out. Maybe better to wait for the DVD?
